Summer Break Has Begun!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we begin the summer break, it is important for us to work together to ensure the safety and well-being of our children and community. The Chesterfield Police Department urges all parents and guardians to be aware of their children’s whereabouts during the summer break as well as year around.

With the school year ending, children will have more free time and may be tempted to explore new areas, try new things, and do things they wouldn’t normally do. Parents need to know where their children are, who they are with, and what they are doing, especially during the long summer days when supervision may be more relaxed.

We encourage open communication with your children about their plans and activities. Establishing clear guidelines and expectations for their behavior and whereabouts can help keep them safe. It is also essential to know the friends and families of your children’s peers and ensure responsible adults supervise any activities or outings.

We want to remind you that Chesterfield has a curfew. For children under the age of 15, the curfew is from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. every day of the week. For those aged 15-17, the curfew is 11:00 p.m. – 5:00 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and 1:00 a.m. – 5:00 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. If your child is caught committing a criminal offense during these hours, they can be arrested for the offense AND a curfew violation.

Our parks close each night at dark. Police officers patrol our town parks, and anyone caught in the park after dark will be instructed to leave. There is NO overnight camping, sleeping, or hanging out permitted in any of our town parks. In addition, the Millcreek Sprayground (Splash pad) is locked nightly by 8:30 PM.

By working together, we, as a community, can help create a safe and enjoyable summer for all our children. We are here to support you in this critical matter. Thank you for your attention.

Sincerely,

Chesterfield Police Department
