Chesterfield, IN – The Chesterfield Police Department, East Madison Fire Territory, and the Madison County Prosecutor’s Office have jointly announced that arrest warrants have been issued for two individuals in connection with the February 18, 2025 house fire located at 309 Sycamore Street in Chesterfield.
Following a thorough investigation by law enforcement and fire investigators, substantial evidence was presented to the Madison County Prosecutor’s Office identifying Charity Nugent and Bradley Steinhilber as suspects in the case.
Emergency crews from multiple agencies, including East Madison Fire Territory, responded to the early morning blaze in February. Thanks to their swift response, there were no reported injuries to residents or first responders. Unfortunately, the structure was deemed a total loss due to the extent of the fire damage.
In connection to the incident, a 2016 red Mitsubishi Outlander was reported stolen from the property’s garage. The vehicle was later located burned and abandoned in rural Morgan County, Indiana, one day after the initial fire. Investigators were able to determine that both fires were connected.
“Our agencies have worked tirelessly to gather evidence and ensure accountability,” said Assistant Chief Cody Painter, for the Chesterfield Police Department. “We remain committed to protecting our community from future criminal acts.”
No other investigative details are available at this time due to the on-going investigation. Media inquiries may be directed to the Madison County Prosecutor’s Office.
