Today, we pause to remember and honor the life of Officer Noah Shahnavaz of the Elwood Police Department — a young man whose courage, dedication, and service left a lasting mark not only on his department but on the entire State of Indiana and beyond.

On this solemn anniversary of his tragic and senseless death, we continue to feel the sorrow of his loss. Noah was taken far too soon, but his legacy of service, strength, and sacrifice continues to shine as a guiding light for all of us in law enforcement.

As the Chief of Police for Chesterfield, Indiana, I want to express that Noah is not forgotten. The men and women of our department continue to carry his memory with pride and respect. We honor his bravery, mourn with his family, and stand shoulder to shoulder with the Elwood Police Department and their community.

Though the pain of his loss remains, so does the light he left behind — in the stories we share, the badge we wear, and the commitment we renew daily to protect and serve with honor.

To the Shahnavaz family: your son, brother, and loved one was a hero. His service made a difference, and his spirit continues to live on in all of us who wear the uniform. May today bring a bit of peace, and may you find comfort in knowing that Noah’s sacrifice will never be forgotten.

With heartfelt remembrance and respect,

Chief Joey Cole
